What we call Operational Excellence (OE) is at the heart of The Chevron Way - the vision, values and strategies that guide us to get results the right way. OE puts into action our core value to protect people and the environment in all our global operations. At Oronite, we instill a culture of operational excellence that places the highest priority on the safety and health of our workforce and on the protection of communities, the environment and our assets.
Oronite's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) is how we systematically manage risk and maintain and assure safeguards across multiple focus areas: process safety, reliability and integrity; workforce safety and health; environment; efficiency; security; and stakeholder relations. OE starts with a personal commitment by our leaders to protect people and the environment. Our leaders at every level challenge the organization to achieve results in OE.
An example of OE in action and the beneficial results of the management system is our Singapore manufacturing plant expansion project, completed in 2014.
The Singapore expansion project, completed in 2014, was one of the largest operational excellence challenges in Oronite history. It was completed safely with 6.6 million man hours.
Our company's values drive us to produce our products responsibly while protecting the environment and working with our partners to strengthen communities. We conduct our business in a socially responsible and ethical manner, protect people and the environment, support universal human rights, and benefit the communities where we work. We put people and the environment at the center of everything we do, and are committed to prioritizing safety, developing our workforce, respecting human rights, and preserving a robust and diverse natural environment.
Our reporting focuses on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues that matter to our business and our stakeholders — investors, customers, host governments, local communities and employees.
Zulkifli cited Oronite as an example of a company that can pursue both growth and environmental sustainability, and noted that it had achieved “annualized energy savings of $1.8 million and a carbon abatement of 4,800 tonnes by installing new equipment,” according to The Straits Times article (3/20/18). “The improvements referenced included a waste heat boiler and mechanical vapor recompression system installed as part of the Carboxylate Expansion Project,” said Kathiresan Marimuthu, who was the project engineering manager. The Singapore Parliament recently passed a bill which will require all facilities producing 25,000 MT or more of greenhouse gas emissions in a year to pay a carbon tax starting in 2019.
One way Oronite demonstrates our commitment to sustainability is through the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 and the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® certifications. Our facilities meet the ISO environmental performance standard, ISO 14001, which is an internationally-recognized standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. Following these requirements, we systematically consider all environmental issues relevant to our operations and put processes in place to mitigate our impact. Our manufacturing facilities in Gonfreville, France; Mauá, Brazil; Oak Point, Louisiana; and Singapore are ISO 14001 certified. All other Oronite facilities have received an attestation for ISO 14001.
Responsible Care® is a voluntary commitment by the global chemical industry to drive continuous improvement and achieve excellence in the performance of workforce health and safety, process safety, product safety, transportation safety, environmental stewardship, and security. Since adopting standards in 1988, Responsible Care companies have significantly enhanced their performance and moved member companies toward a safer and more sustainable future. Responsible Care® helps leading chemical companies, like Oronite, go above and beyond government requirements and openly communicate their results to the public.
Responsible Care® companies have reduced environmental releases to air, land and water by 75 percent since 1988.
Oronite's Operational Excellence Management System and our commitment to Responsible Care® extends to the entire supply chain including transporting, storing, using and disposing. Our approach to product stewardship involves the close cooperation of everyone in the life cycle of our additives: Oronite employees, suppliers, distributors, transporters, freight forwarders and customers. Oronite also meets the requirements of REACH, which is an European Union regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals.
We raise awareness and increase confidence with everyone involved with our products by making chemical health and safety information available to the public. To read about Oronite products, see below.
Our quality assurance and blend personnel work closely as a team to review and manage manufacturing capabilities and anticipate customer requirements during commercialization. They work diligently to prevent any customer product issues and, if they do arise, to help resolve them quickly. We continually meet a high standard of quality and have received the ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification. Our facilities in Gonfreville, France; Mauá, Brazil; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Oak Point, Louisiana; Omaezaki, Japan; and Singapore are ISO 9001 certified.
Oronite's key components are manufactured in each of our world scale plants to strict process guidelines, ensuring consistency across the globe. One global manufacturing specification ensures the same product is available from all major plants.
Product integrity goes beyond our Quality Assurance team. It encompasses everything we do to ensure our customers receive our products as they were designed — on spec, free of defects and providing intended performance benefits.
Excellence in product integrity requires robust quality assurance processes, a commitment to operational discipline, and a preventive mindset throughout the product lifecycle.
Good product integrity starts during research and development. We innovate products to not only meet the customer's performance requirements, but to adhere to high product quality standards.
We have a highly disciplined approach to bring a new product to the market. As part of the commercialization process, our program ensures that the product not only meets industry-driven specifications, but is also rigorously examined for potential product quality concerns.
This program ensures that no matter where our product is produced, it is continuously made with the same level of quality and will arrive to our customer as intended.
This program ensures that each product we sell will perform as expected while we pursue continuous improvement of our processes for safety, efficiency and reliability.
Meeting expectations by delivering consistent, high-quality products on time, every time, is our commitment. Our global presence gives us the strength and flexibility to adapt our manufacturing and blending capacity to meet customer needs, today and in the future. Our globally integrated supply chain complements our flexible manufacturing, ensuring reliable supply of components and additives to all our customers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Each location uses highly automated equipment and state-of-the-art control systems to provide the flexibility and capacity needed to meet demand.
Meeting expectations by delivering consistent, high quality products on time, every time is our commitment.
